FAQ / Q&A Introduction

ISO 27001IAB Turkey

By carefully listening to the feedback of Internet users in Turkey and across the globe, we have identified the most frequently asked questions. We would like to address them and to clarify certain aspects of the gemiusAudience study. If you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact us or read the more detailed FAQ (https://www.gemius.com/privacy-notice-for-panelists.html).

Q: Why am I seeing the survey?
A: Gemius is conducting a study on the Turkish Internet on behalf of IAB Turkey. As such, we are constantly looking for new participants for our study to improve the quality of our data.

Q: What are the aims of this research?
A: The research aims to define the socio-demographic profile of internet users visiting various websites.

Q: What/who is Gemius?
A: Gemius is a research and technology company based in Warsaw, Poland. We have been conducting internet research across more than 30 markets worldwide since 1999. https://www.gemius.com/our-internet-adventure-started-15-years-ago.html

Q: Why is data quality important?
A: It helps website owners to better understand who is visiting them. For you, it means more interesting and relevant content on the sites you frequently visit.

Q: How accurate/believable are results of the study?
A: Gemius has been recognized by IAB Europe numerous times for the cutting-edge methodology that powers our research. Our study is used as the standard in a dozen markets worldwide. Q: What/who is ESOMAR?
A: ESOMAR is the essential organisation for encouraging, advancing and elevating market research worldwide. https://www.esomar.org/about-esomar.php

Q: Why is a new tab opening in my browser and why am I seeing the survey there?
A: We have recently changed the way we display our survey. Through user feedback, we have found that this way is much more convenient and does not interfere with your internet browsing, though it still gives you an option to participate in our study.

Q: What happened to the pop-up version of the survey?
A: We found that it was disruptive to the user experience and decided to remove it.

Q: Why do you show these surveys?
A: A very valid question. We do it to provide statistical data about the profile of the internet audience and popularity of different websites in Turkey. This data is provided to an independent organisation – IAB Turkey – and used in online measurement study.

Q: What happens with those results?
A: Those results are used to make your internet experience better and to provide an overview of the Turkish Internet space. It also helps websites to prepare more relevant content for you. As an example, the study provides information about how many Turkish men and women visit Facebook. However, it does not report what any one user did.

Q: How do you collect data?
A: The data is collected through the Gemius secure application, which you can install after completing our survey. If you so choose, you will be enrolled in our loyalty program, where you can win rewards for being a member of our study panel.

Q: How secure is the application?
A: Your data is not shared with anyone, and we are bound by EU and Polish law to keep all information strictly confidential. At the end of the data collection stage, the data is anonymised, meaning that there is no way to trace it back to you. You can also ask us to anonymise your data during the research. To do that, you should contact us directly.

Q: Do you collect my bank details, social media messages, passwords, details about my private life, or any information like that?
A: No, we have no interest whatsoever in any of your private details, messages, relationships, passwords, credit card numbers, bank account specifics or anything else of the sort. What we are interested in, for example, is finding out how many females visit e-commerce sites and at which times of the day.

Q: What happens after I install your software?
A: We will ask you to log in. After logging in, the software runs in the background and periodically sends information related to your internet browsing to our secure server.

Q: How often do I need to log in?
A: Usually, we ask you for one log-in. There are two cases when we may have you do it more frequently. The first is after a long period of inactivity. We want to make sure it is you, our panel research member, who is participating in the research. The second case happens when there are several individuals on our panel who are using the same computer. In this case, we will show the log-in window a couple times per day to confirm which user is currently participating in the research.

Q: What if someone else is using my computer?
A: There is a pop-up window and log-in mechanism that allows you to make sure that the system recognizes it is you participating in the research. If another person on our panel uses the same computer, we will show the log-in window a couple times per day to confirm which user is currently participating in the research.

Q: What about my privacy?
A: We treat these matters with the utmost seriousness. Your privacy is of great importance to us, and thus we do not share any of your personal information or any identifying characteristics. We aggregate the data collected and present our results based on demographic groups (e.g. young people).

Q: What about my contact data?
A: Your contact data is used to send you rewards or newsletters if you have opted in.
